Origin and inheritance of D2 smoothness in Upland cotton.
Publication Overview
Abstract D2 Smoothness is due to a single dominant gene which has been transferred from G. armourianum Kearney - a wild, lintless, glabrous, photoperiodic, American species -- to Upland cotton. This dominant gene appears to be a promising new plant property that can help solve the trash and lint-cleaning problems of mechanically harvested cotton. The symbol Sm is proposed for this gene, which should be in the D subgenome of Upland cotton because it was transferred from an American D species.
