The inheritance of rugate leaf in Pima cotton.

An aberrant plant, designated rugate leaf, arose by mutation in an experimental strain of Pima cotton, Gossypium barbadense L. The mutation affects seedling vigor, leaf appearance, growth habit, flowering pattern, and flower and green boll size. Fertility of the mutant plants is normal. Rugate leaf is conditioned by one gene pair, with rugate leaf dominant to normal. We propose that the symbol Ru be assigned to the allele conditioning the mutant expression.
