Inheritance of Smooth and Pitted Bolls in Pima Cotton.
Publication Overview
Abstract In cotton relatively few characters segregate in simple Mendelian fashion. Kearney ^ lists only 14 allelic pairs of characters. Additions have been made since his list was compiled, but the number is still small. Conspicuous allelic characters, if not deleterious, are of interest to cotton breeders for the reason that they can be transferred from one variety to another and utilized as a mark of identification. The discovery of a character of this nature, a smooth-boll variation in Pima cotton, is reported in this paper.
