Abstract

Allelism tests on 10 Gossypium hirsutum virescent mutants and the genetically male-sterile line 81A with the virescent trait (81Av) showed that nv17 and 81Av were non-allelic to v1, v2, v3, v4, v5, v6, v8, v9, v10, v11, v12, v13, v14, v15, v16, v17, v18, v19 and vP, while the other 9 mutants were assumed to be allelic to one or other of the v genes. Virescence in nv17 and 81Av was under recessive monogenic control and pleiotropy between male sterility and virescence in 81Av was assumed. It was proposed that nv17 be renamed virescent-22 with a gene symbol v22, and that pongze virescent be renamed virescent-20 with a gene symbol v20 instead of Vp.
